Walk into Eastern Floral in Grand Rapids, Michigan and you could feasibly walk out with just about anything you need for dressing an event space or giving a thoughtful gift. From hand-poured soy candles to quaint succulent arrangements or bouquets bursting with 100 roses, Eastern Floral can tick quite a few boxes on an occasion planner’s list, even the one who needs a single rose for Valentine’s Day. Though the shop is known for its gorgeous, fresh flower and greenery arrangements, there’s many other corners to explore on-site.
“I think what [customers] experience is that when they’ve heard of Eastern Floral they think it’s just a floral shop and then we have more than that,” said Van Vu, marketing manager at Eastern Floral, in one such corner of the shop, where larger than life planter arrangements and furnishings are bathed in natural light.
“Actually, when I first walked in here my first impression was that it was just a floral shop and a gift shop, and then there was amazing customer service,” Vu added.
When walking in, prepared to be stopped by the flower cooler room, where fresh, ready-made arrangements are brightly lit for browsing. Nearby, the front counter is occupied by friendly faces from Eastern Floral, and the “menu” above them includes some popular picks for Valentine’s Day, such as the classic bouquet of a dozen roses, or roses intermixed with delicate baby’s breath, or lilies.
A special holiday design this year, called All My Heart, is a bouquet of roses shaped into hearts and held by the stems with silky red twine within their glass vase. Another is the JW Romance Package, which includes pink roses, purple dendrobium orchids, and tropical additions along with an overnight stay for two at the JW Marriott, and breakfast at its French bistro, Margaux. In general, Vu notes that special details in design and vibrant arrangements of any kind can capture the eye.
“Colorful, bright, and vibrant [designs] will catch the attention and our designers are very good at it; they’re talented when designing unique arrangements,” Vu said. “They are very creative and can mix flowers to create the most ‘wow’ factor.”
Eastern Floral also has two other locations, one in Grand Haven and one in Holland, and the Grand Rapids location sits between downtown and the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. If any are a bit out of the way, however, the shop also delivers nation-wide for added convenience and has serviced countless weddings and other events. Head to their website to discover tips for extending the life of fresh flower arrangements, and while there, read up on the Language of Flowers, where the shop has meaningful interpretations of fan favorites like irises, lilies, and roses.
