Perched downtown at JW Marriott Grand Rapids, the Jdek at Margaux has long been a vibrant spot for celebrations, intimate nights out, and singular views of both the city and the soft rushing waters of the Grand River. The deck and patio provide a cozy, open-air backdrop for contemporary and classic French cuisine courtesy of hotel’s bistro Margaux, with some additions of its own.
“The Jdek at Margaux offers the full-service Margaux menu plus some extras for everyone to enjoy. We have kept the French inspiration of Margaux, while featuring approachable options to entice the casual diner as well as the experience seeker,” said Norina Cadili, assistant general manager of JW Marriott Grand Rapids.
Breakfast at Margaux features everything from classic Belgian waffles—with fresh seasonal compote and whipped Chantilly cream—to crab or eggs benedict and petit croissants. The evening menu dazzles with plentiful hors d’oeuvres like Tarte Flambée and Escargots à la Bourguignonne, a crave-worthy French Onion soup, and heartier portions in entrées like Saumon en Croute, Filet Mignon au Poivre with cognac peppercorn cream, and a hearth-oven roasted seafood tower fitted for two or four diners.
Cadili recommends starting with a shareable like the Tartine, which features whipped chèvre, pea pistou, pea shoots, radish, and local baguettes, and then indulging in the popular roast half-chicken from Margaux’s rotisserie, or the house-made Cappelletti with herbed chèvre filling, tomato monte, and shaved parmesan. Of course, when at Margaux or its lounge, each dish is meant to be savored with a cocktail or selection of fine Bordeaux wine and curations reflecting the heritage of wines from France’s Medoc region.
“If visiting the Jdek at Margaux for the first time, be a little adventurous and mix the familiar with a heightened experience,” Cadili said. “Our summer crafted cocktail menu was created to offer something crisp, cool, and thoughtfully tasty. Try the Petit Bisous, or ‘little kiss’ and The Beauregarde, or ‘fine views’ for unique and fresh sips.”
The Petit Bisous is a refreshing combination of cointreau, cranberry, lime, agave, and sparkling wine; while The Beauregarde mixes local favorite New Holland Brewing Company’s blueberry gin with butterfly pea, lemon, sparkling wine. Other notable names on the cocktail list are the East of Eden—a pairing of Tito’s vodka, cucumber, honey, ginger, thyme, and lemon—and the West Indian Limeade comprising Bacardi rum, ginger beer, molasses, and lime.
As for its sweeping city views, the Jdek at Margaux offers north and south sights of the Grand River and, at night, the various reflections from city lights on its quietly rushing waters. In the spring and summer, the patio is a fresh-air vantage point for casual, regular visits or a “best-of” for city visitors, and it includes bar and regular seating as well as open-wall cabanas with intimate fire pits. In the winter the patio is fitted with enclosed domes for savoring Margaux’s classics in the comfort of an enclosure that saves views of fresh snowfall.
“The airy space and stunning views of the Grand River create a perfect backdrop to begin a day or night on the Jdek at Margaux,” Cadili said. “From there, guests can choose the summer vibe they’re looking for: keep it casual with a tasty burger, flatbread, and beer, or elevate your palate with crafted cocktails and a perfectly savored warm seafood tower.”
